NEW DELHI: Attackers on a motorbike opened fire with a submachine gun on a tourist bus outside New Delhi’s Jamia Masjid on Sunday, injuring two male Taiwanese sightseers, one of them seriously. A homegrown militant group, Indian Mujahideen, claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened to target the upcoming Commonwealth Games, the Press Trust of India said.
An email sent by the group to the Press Trust of India read, “The attack is a tribute to Atif Amin and Mohammed Sajid.” Amin and Sajid were Indian Mujahideen operatives killed by the police after a series of blasts in New Delhi in September 2008. “We are warning you. If you have the guts, then organise the Commonwealth Games... we know that preparations are on full swing. Be prepared... we are also making preparations… the participants in the Games will be responsible for the outcome,” the email read.
