5 killed in US missile strike

MIR ALI: A suspected US drone fired three missiles at a house in North Waziristan on Sunday, killing five alleged militants in the 14th such attack this month – the most intense barrage since the strikes began in 2004, said intelligence officials.
The house belonged to a local militant and was located in Dattakhel, a town in the North Waziristan that is controlled by terrorists who regularly launch crossborder attacks against NATO troops in Afghanistan, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity. The identities of the terrorists were not known but an intelligence official in Miranshah said that those killed in the strike were associated with the Haqqani network.
Including Sunday’s attack, 14 missile strikes have killed more than 65 people since September 2, according to a tally based on Pakistani intelligence officials’ reports. Many have struck in and around Dattakhel, which has a population of about 40,000 people. Until now, the highest number of airstrikes in a single month had been the 11 launched in January this year.
